Gold Prospecting & Placer Deposits: Finding Gold Made Simpler

Gold Prospecting & Placer Deposits: Finding Gold Made Simplerby Adam KochAdam G. Koch

The first question asked by any prospector at some point in time is, "Where do I dig?" And perhaps the second is "How did gold get there?" These are questions that don't have a wrong answer since gold can be anywhere from any number of reasons, rather the best answers are revealed by the light of experience.

There is no "one size fits all" explanation of how to find gold. What is true for one area will cause you to miss gold in other locations. You may very well find gold no matter where you dig, but the spot you choose affects the quantity you will find. Or, you could be standing on a bonanza but not have one color in any of your pans. Over time, a prospector learns how to interpret the language a stream speaks, and to tailor their strategy to suit the current variables present where they are currently working in order to reach pay dirt.

You may read any number of books absorbing all you can on prospecting theory and still, you will not be so sure of where your best spots will be when you are standing on the banks with shovel and pan in hand. The unique approach taken by the author does not utilize diagrams and drawings to teach you the basics nor does it follow the "how to" format. Instead, the real life working examples are given so that you may be more successful from your first trip out.

-----------------

This book has been revised as of 2/11/2012, Appendices added in addition to content adjusted throughout the publication.

Added are instructions in how to use a gold pan, specific instructions for setting up a sluice, how to identify real gold from fools gold, and I added an appendix hopefully more helpful in explaining some of the principles not thoroughly covered in the main chapters. Hopefully this will prove more useful to my readers than the previous version.

Current word count is almost 23,000 words in this edition.

Version 2 is in the process of being made, it will include more diagrams and pictures, and hopefully go into greater detail regarding many of the things that are important to the prospector. In the mean time, I have decided it is only appropriate to implement a price reduction until such time as Version 2 is released.

Bank Valuation and Value-Based Management: Deposit and Loan Pricing, Performance Evaluation, and Risk Management

Bank Valuation and Value-Based Management: Deposit and Loan Pricing, Performance Evaluation, and Risk Managementby Jean DermineMcGraw-Hill

Bank Valuation & Value-Based Management provides bankers, bank regulators, auditors, and risk managers with foundational concepts and practical tools for effectively managing a bank.

An expert in asset and liability management, European financial markets, and banking theory, Jean Dermine provides rigorous foundations to discuss asset and liability management at a global level, with an integrated focus on an institution’s banking book. He covers bank valuation, fund transfer pricing, deposit and loan pricing, risk management, and performance measurement, and addresses two high-profile issues for banks worldwide: portfolio credit risk and liquidity risk.

This thorough and innovative guide presents insightful coverage on the hazards of measuring portfolio credit risk, the impact of liquidity risk on fund transfer pricing, and the practice of performance measurement in the banking industry. Numerous real-world examples from the U.S. subprime crisis help illustrate the nature and dynamics of these issues.

Inside, you will find a framework for discussing such managerial issues as:

  • Bank valuation
  • Fund transfer pricing
  • Deposit pricing
  • Capital management
  • Loan pricing and provisioning
  • Securitization
  • Measurement of interest rate risk
  • Performance measurement

At the same time that it helps readers develop an intuitive sense for asset-liability management, this practical book follows through with rigorous mathematical formulas and examples from the international banking community. In addition, exercises are incorporated throughout the text to facilitate discussions of how theoretical concepts can be applied to real-world problems. This authoritative guide to bank management also features an exclusive companion Web site, www.mhprofessional.com/bankvaluation, which includes additional chapters and exercise solutions that serve as key supplements to the core text.

Creating value in banking depends on a rocksolid understanding of what drives value and the right valuation model to help make the tough decisions that will enhance shareholder value. Bank Valuation & Value-Based Management is your one-stop reference for each of these critical issues.

An empirical test of the incentive effects of deposit insurance: the case of junk bonds at savings and loan associations.: An article from: Journal of Money, Credit & Banking

by Elijah, III BrewerOhio State University Press

This digital document is an article from Journal of Money, Credit & Banking, published by Ohio State University Press on February 1, 1994. The length of the article is 8161 words. The page length shown above is based on a typical 300-word page. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Digital Locker immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.

From the supplier: This paper analyzes how financial markets reacted to S&L diversification into junk bonds. We report that junk bond holdings are positively correlated with both the volatility of S&L equity returns and the interest rates paid on large CDs. Next, we examine the impact of junk bonds on equity returns. For poorly capitalized S&Ls, greater risk taking increases the value of deposit insurance and should lead to higher stock returns. However, a well-capitalized institution that increases junk bond holdings should not experience stock price gains. We find that this is the case for the sample of S&Ls we studied. In 1917, Sylvia Beach walked into a Paris bookshop, where she met Adrienne Monnier, the woman who would become her life companion. In 1919, Beach opened her own English-language bookshop and lending library, Shakespeare and Company, which would become the cynosure of an entire literary movement. Literary expatriates were drawn to her shop, and Ernest Hemingway declared of Sylvia, "No one that I ever knew was nicer to me." But her most celebrated literary efforts are those she made on behalf of her literary idol, James Joyce, undertaking the publication of Ulysses. Noel Riley Fitch uses Beach as the focal point for a fascinating portrait of an artistic community filled with anecdote after anecdote. From the intellectual salons at Natalie Barney's residence--of which "William Carlos Williams would recall only the lesbian women dancing together"--to the seemingly constant presence of Ezra Pound, Fitch's account solidifies the importance of the time and place he so vividly re-creates. --Ron Hogan

The Geology of Ore Deposits

The Geology of Ore Depositsby John M. GuilbertWaveland Press, Inc.

Modern civilization's dependence upon an increasing volume and diversity of minerals makes the search for new ore deposits ever more difficult. Now available from Waveland Press, Guilbert & Park's text presents ideas, principles, and data fundamental for beginning economic geologists to understand the genesis and localization of ore deposits and of the minerals associated with them. The authors comprehensively describe the physical and chemical characteristics of ore deposits, and correlate them with environments and conditions of deposition since ore deposits are best interpreted as extensions of the environments responsible for their enclosing rocks. Examples and illustrations emphasize structural, chemical, and temporal controls and encourage the three-dimensional thinking used by productive explorationists as they face unsolved problems. This upper-level undergraduate text is fully illustrated and meticulously indexed. Its reliable, authoritative coverage assumes an upper-level command of chemistry and physics, as well as mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology. Outstanding features include: 1) develops and combines the abilities of the explorationist and of the researcher of ore-forming processes; 2) structures the geologic descriptions into groupings recognized by researches and explorers alike; 3) builds confidence, revitalizes curiosity, and encourages expanded thinking; 4) emphasizes that the days of "easy" discovery of outcropping ores are not over; and 5) includes revised, expanded, and updated descriptions of districts.

1 and 2 Timothy and Titus: To Guard the Deposit (Preaching the Word)

1 and 2 Timothy and Titus: To Guard the Deposit (Preaching the Word)by Bryan ChapellCrossway Books

There are substantial reasons to be energized by the prospect of studying the Pastoral letters of Paul. Between them they teach the proper ordering of the church (1 Timothy), present a developed challenge to all who call themselves disciples of Christ (2 Timothy), and suggest God's plan and priorities for mature ministry (Titus)—all so that the Lord may be most glorified.

Whether you are corporately or privately concerned about the church's—or every Christian's—role and responsibility to communicate the truth of the gospel in this diverse and pluralistic society, the Pastorals offer great perspective. They remind us that, like Timothy, we are to guard what has been entrusted to our care. To fight the good fight. And to keep preaching the Word.

A well-ordered church, a clearly called and mature leadership with its priorities straight, and a body of believers committed to living a godly life in Christ are key to people being saved and coming to the knowledge of the truth. Through the apostle's words and the commentators' insights here, we gain an understanding of what God requires of those who would lead in the local church, as well as those who would be led. Embracing grace, loving godliness, and sharing Christ were not just charges to the early believers, and are not solely the responsibility of pastors, deacons, and elders in the church. They are exhortations for any of us who call ourselves disciples of Christ today. Part of the Preaching the Word series.
